Interestingly, after Alec Trebek died in 2020 due to pancreatic cancer, there were many names on the list to take over the position of host. Some of the popular names in this list included Mike Richards, Ken Jennings, and Mayim Bialik.
Burton says that it was a public defeat for him to lose the opportunity to host the show and it was very difficult for him to deal with the situation. He said that it was also a learning experience for him in the long run and he feels that whatever happened was for a good reason and he tried to move on from that place. However, he was given the opportunity to be the guest host for one of the episodes in 2021.
Burton had high hopes:-
Burton had high hopes about getting the job of the host and it left him devastated to know that he was not chosen as the host. He said that the first week after that incident was very difficult and he went through a lot of pain.
He has however not given up on his dream job and plans to create and host a show that is along the lines of Hasbro’s Trivial Pursuit. He plans to host a new game show in the near future. Currently, he is busy with the Scripps Spelling Bee program as a host and it is a wonderful opportunity according to fans. Even Burton says that he loved the experience of hosting this program and he would have missed it had he got other offers.

Burton however still misses Jeopardy as he was a huge fan of the show and says that he would have been the perfect host for the program. He went on to say that he had watched the show since he was in school and Art Fleming used to host the show at that time.
The current season of Jeopardy is running with Bialik and Jennings doing different episodes. Interestingly, Richards was fired after he made some inappropriate jokes about women. Jennings also revealed recently that he would make way for Bialik to become the full-time host for the program.
