A tyrannical grandmother, 85 who was found guilty in the murder of her daughter in law, 27 is set to be freed from the jail.
The grandmother, 85 was in jail as she was found accused of the murder of her daughter in law will be free in weeks. Brutal Bachan Kaur Athwal was convicted in 2007. She and her son, Sukhdave Athwal, 43 both were involved in the murder case of the Surjit Athwal, 27 later justice was served and they were sentenced to life.
The grandmother can be released on license, said the parole board today. The daughter in law got vanished as she went from the UK to India for the wedding ceremony in December 1998. The police have not found her body anywhere. Many shreds of evidence were presented that proved the crime of the grandmother and her son.
Now the lady was in poor health and suffered from dementia which is why the Parole Board has decided to free her on licence. They both plotted the murder at the Old Bailey and got life imprisonment.
Surjit got married in 1988 at the age of 16 to Sukhdave Athwal and suffered domestic abuse and unhappy life for almost her breath lasted. She lived with the strict mother and son in Hayes, West London. The old lady ruled the house on her terms and treated her as a slave. The Widowed Bachan thought that she was doing the right things for the good name of her family. Her husband beat her with a stick and her mother forced her to follow the weird rules of the family. Anyhow the Surjit arranged a job for her at Heathrow Airport and wore the western dress for her new job. Bachan was ashamed as Surjit started to wear western dresses. In November 1988, the lady announced to her family member, that it was high time to get rid of her. And she arranged and lured her to India and her brother, Darshan Singh strangled Surjit and throw her body in the river.
Surjit’s brother started to find her sister and after the investigation of the missing case, the Sukhdave and Bachan got arrested in her murder case. Surjit’s sister-in-law Sarbjit Athwal helped the police to grab the collar of the murderer. Sarbjit was taking care of Surjit’s kids when she was at the job. The lady had no reason to commit this serious crime.
